About the Day tour of Wicklow:
This unique award winning tour of county Wicklow offers activities of horse riding or a guided walk in the first half of the tour. If you are not feeling too active you can relax and discover the beautiful Powerscourt Gardens.
The tour leaves from Dublin city from a very central location, the molly Malone statue on Suffolk Street. Once you are all on the bus and your guide has introduced themselves, your tour begins. You will travel south through the streets of Dublin with your guide giving you some insight into Dublin’s rich history and folklore. Then it’s into county Wicklow which is very close and just a short drive for your first stop.
Powercsourt Gardens:
Your first stop of the day is at the Powerscourt House and Gardens and those who are not doing any activity will get off the bus here to visit the House and Gardens. The gardens are beautiful, have been voted the World’s 3rd most beautiful by the National Geographic.
Horse Riding or Guided Walk:
For those of you going horse riding your guide will bring you to the stables which are close-by and well used to dealing with all experience levels of riders. Then once the guide is left with those who have chosen the guided walk. Your guide will bring you on a beautiful guided walk with some wonderful views of Ireland’s coastline and forest trails.
Lunch Break:
The guide then collects everyone back up and brings you all to the small Victorian estate village of Enniskerry, (film location of “P.S. I Love You” and “Leap Year”) for some lunch (not included in cost). Normally we visit the small local café called “Poppies” where there is a wide selection of food to choose from. They can also cater for Vegetarians.
After lunch the tour continues on through the Wicklow Mountains National Park. You will visit many of Wicklow’s wonderful highlights along the way, including the Sally Gap, Lough Tay, the Guinness Lake (film location of “Excalibur” and “Brave Heart”) and eventually into Glendalough.
Glendalough and the monastic site of St Kevin:
In Glendalough your guide will bring to the 6thcentury monastic site of St. Kevin and explain its folklore and important history to this region. Then you are given some free time to explore this wonderful valley and its two lakes yourself.
Afterwards its time to board back on the bus and make your way back towards Dublin after a wonderful day exploring the natural scenic beauty of county Wicklow.
Fell free to ask the guide any questions you may have about things to do in Dublin or Ireland, they are friendly and love to chat.
All the guides are local, fully qualified and full of the history and stories of the places visited
